Aside from lighting things up, the reflection and refraction of light through different materials of the lamp bring calmness and comfort.

Eliza uses shapes - square, circle, and triangle in her design. The pattern of the Five Elements can be viewed from the bottom of the lamp. Different materials are used to form the patterns - the iron frame is ‘metal’, the wood chip is ‘wood’, glass is ‘water’, light is ‘fire’, and mirror means ‘earth’. Each face shows its distinctive texture and brightness.

POSH, being one of the not many local businesses, has successfully revamped itself by orchestrating more than one type of innovation in the succession across generations. This showcase demonstrates the beauty of the collaborative challenges and highlights cross-cultural references of how design strategy leads a traditional company in Hong Kong to manufacture in the mainland and reach out to the global market while maintaining the reputation of an internationally renowned brand.

The design team explored the way paper moves, and they also took their cues from origami techniques, or the Japanese art of folding paper. For PDL the principles of origami inspired other applications, like keeping material used in the manufacturing process to a minimum and reducing the need for joints.

By bending and angling simple sheet metal into unique shapes and structures, the designers were able to develop a structure that is surprising strong and rigid. Grooves and cutouts helped to confer additional strength and solidity on this desk, allowing the different components of the table to fit together with ease.

The end result is a unique desking solution that is highly functional and less impactful on the environment.

The new cinema exemplifies how cultural values can be shared between users of the two cities, and how designers can contribute to their clients’ business development through close collaboration.

The cinema design resembles a dramatic scene after an explosion, where the audience would feel as if they were in science fiction movies. Upon entering the cinema, audiences’ eyes would meet with the various-shaped and three dimensional boxes. Black and white 3D boxes of various shapes and sizes engulf the entire cinema, conveying a hint of futuristic and multi-dimensional feeling. Rectangular box-shaped concessions and ticket kiosks incline in different angles, camouflaging themselves in the background. In the auditorium, 3D square-shaped boxes of sound absorbing materials are freely distributed to point towards different angles, creating a spectacular scene. Along the corridor, several white metal pillars grow towards different directions, whereas objects were being placed randomly and scattered around. In the washroom, pillars elongate from the ceiling, minimizing the room space to create a sense of pressure. Square basins look like irregular objects that would only appear in the future.

For over a decade of Chairplay evolution, I have been trying to address a variety of issues, ranging from gender to communication, from social cohesion to political tension, from traditional artistry to calligraphy, all of which tend to be serious in style. Since 2009 when I collaborated with a Hong Kong furniture brand, Giormani, in the production of Piggy & Pony, I have always been clinging to the theme of “home” and as a piece of children furniture, thus coming up with the colourful range of animals. Chairs are a must-have item at home. A fun chair will not only embellish the house, but also inspire infinite imagination. It can allow endless conversation and connect every member in a family.
